BRAZILIAN born Diego Costa is no stranger to tournament boxing have won the inaugural Phil Martin trophy in December 2019  ‘Dynamite’ Diego won the £10,000 Phil Martin prize having beaten Darryl Sharp in last September’s semi-final and then stopping Scottish banger Boris Crighton in the final three months later.

Costa showed breath-taking resilience against Crighton taking his rival’s sledgehammer blows before winning by stoppage in round four sparking emotional scenes when he dedicated his triumph to former trainer, the late Oliver Harrison.
Medical issues led to a lay-off of almost two years meaning he couldn’t cash in on that magnificent success.

Costa was back in business in November 2019 and outscored Slovakia’s Michal Gazdik over four rounds.
He turned pro in May 2017 and even on his debut scored a huge upset stopping Craig Bunn inside a round.

There are far better boxers and Costa is raw, but every fight delivers excitement that will make fans want to see more of him whatever the outcome.
