MATTY FAGAN’S career has been slow burning with just 18 fights in more than eight years as a professional, but his ambition is still fierce.
Like so many boxers, 2020 has been a wasted year although he did squeeze in an outing back in March when he beat Abdon Cesar on points over six rounds.
Matty won 11 of his first 13 fights and started his career being trained by Anthony Farnell and promoted by Frank Warren.
He stepped up in class in September 2017 and although he was on the wrong end of a points defeat against Joe Murray, he pushed the 2008 Olympian all the way and even dropped him early.
Little more than a year later, Fagan was back in title action, challenging Robbie Barrett for the vacant IBF European crown.
Barrett surprisingly retired after that fight, but Fagan has kept persevering and returned with a win over Lee Hallett before the Cesar success.
