Joe Kavanagh was strolling past Frankie Knuckles boxing gym one day, walked in and decided he wanted to be a boxer. He has hardly left the gym since as he strives to fulfil his dream and win major titles. Although Kavanagh is still serving his professional apprenticeship he’s already calling for 50-50 scraps.
Kavanagh made his professional debut in June 2018, outpointing Joe Beeden over four rounds and soon after repeated that win over the Swindon man, flooring him in round three. His third professional points win came in December 2019, when he beat another veteran Ibrar Riyaz on points. He ended a layoff of almost two-years in November 2021 when he outpointed Benjamin Lamptey over four rounds - a 40-36 shutout.
It was 12 months before talented prospect returned and ruined the 100th fight of Michael Mooney winning all four rounds. A week later in December 2022, Kavanagh was back in action and outpointed Jake Osgood over four rounds. He didn’t box until March 2023 and came through the toughest test of his career against Darryl Tapfuma taking a 58-56 decision.
