After winning numerous amateur titles Leon took the professional plunge and made his debut in June 2022. The flashy youngster who is trained by Tom Smith came through comfortable outpointing Naeem Ali.

 

He weighed 9-12 for his return in March 2023 and made it a tough night for top journeyman Karl Sampson winning on points over four rounds. Smith seriously bangs the drum for his flashy protege and he impressed greatly in September stopping Manchester debutant Declan Dee inside two rounds.

 

He showed how well he is growing into the Welterweight division in April 2024 stepping up to six rounds and outpointing previously unbeaten Louis West.

 

Two months later, he was back and was to his best, outpointing Richard Helm who was more than impressed.

 

Cooney is anxious to stay busy and willing to box in the away corner.
