‘NUTTY BOY’ Mason Cartwright’s lip gave him a touch of stardom, but he’s after a sprinkling of fame because he can shoot from his fists.
Cartwright made headlines after his unlucky ninth round injury defeat in a vacant WBO European Welterweight title clash against Darren Tetley at Elland Road in May 2018.
He suffered a gruesome mouth injury ruling him out in the penultimate round when ahead on the cards and the X-rated images went viral worldwide.
When he arrived at Leeds General Infirmary, Cartwright was greeted by Davina McCall and the A and E Live cameras that saw Mason featured in the ITV1 show.
That injury kept Cartwright out for ten months, but he returned with points wins over Genadij Krajevskij and Edvinas Puplauskas.
That led to a clash against Danny Ball for the vacant WBC International Silver Welterweight title in October 2019. He was boxing well and appeared ahead, but walked onto big shots in round three and was stopped.
He returned two months later boxing at Super-Welterweight and stopped Alexander Zeledon in the fifth round.
A 23 month lay-off followed, but Mason returned with a win when African Daniel Lartey quit after a round.
Cartwright turned professional in October 2014 and enters 2022 knowing he cannot afford another setback.
